We wanted to share the experiences of our remarkable people. Their stories have helped shape our Employer Brand and we wanted to share their life at work with the world. In this story, we caught up with Deborah Vanhouwaert who talked about her life at AS Watson and the lessons she has learned that she now passes on to the next generation.

"I started my career almost 10 years ago at ICI PARIS XL. I had just graduated, I was a typical straight out of college student who needed some direction and support. I came across a job opening at ICI PARIS XL and I was able to start immediately, and since then, my life has really taken off."

"My first role was as Marketing Assistant. And I was amazed at the world I was in. it was busy, which suited my nature, but it was also very focused and connected to the customer. I loved this. And even though I was very junior, I was surrounded by people who wanted me to be the best I could be. This support was incredible.

Very quickly I was involved in so much training and development. And I grew in confidence in my role. I got promoted and over the next few years I recognised the real me emerging. Not so crazy anymore. Still passionate, but channelled into productivity."

"I’ve been Marketing Manager for two years now. And I think it was this promotion that really highlighted several key aspects of where I work. This culture is 90% female and the sense of community, support and empowerment is visible everywhere. Yes, it’s hard work, but when you are surrounded by people who know you, and want the best for you, you repay that with the same respect and support."

"6 months before becoming Marketing Manager, I had a baby boy. My partner and I always wanted children, and I knew that I would be supported to work in the way that is best for me and my family. Of course, it’s hard work at the beginning, but I think every mum feels that way. Knowing that my team and my managers were there to help and give me the flexibility I needed was such a huge help. To me, my family is at home AND at work!"
