Remarkable stories

We wanted to share the experiences of our remarkable people. Their stories have helped shape our Employer Brand and we wanted to share their life at work with the world. In this blog series, we caught up Amy Lasham who talked about her past 14 years in the ever-changing world of Marketing and her focus for helping everyone to make those small changes that can have a massive impact on our planet.

First steps

"I started at Superdrug seven years ago as the Online Marketing and Content Manager. I’d worked in retail digital marketing before but this was different , there was no comparison to the learning and development, and the opportunities to grow a great career."

Stepping outside and back in

"I’m always looking to try new things and the opportunity came up to work at a children’s newspaper. It was a good learning experience, but I missed the fast pace of retail. I’d always kept in touch with people at AS Watson and an opportunity came up with The Perfume Shop in 2020 and I grabbed it with both hands. The first six months was virtual working. We were in the middle of the pandemic, so I joined and didn’t get to meet everyone in-person. The great thing is, the management made sure that we were looked after and connected to our team, so we didn’t feel too isolated."

Growing skills

"The great thing about working for The Perfume Shop is the development opportunities you get being part of a global network. The Perfume Shop is part of the AS Watson group and there are so many connections to be made in the UK and beyond. You can really write your own personal development plan and work with your manager to achieve it. My role has developed a couple of times since I joined – firstly taking on analytics and more recently Retail Media. I’ve really grown in terms of skill-set and capability. And I’ve got the support of a brilliant manager. She’s my biggest cheerleader and has shown me courses I can do, and the learning and development programmes that have helped me build my career. We all have access to this and it helps everyone be fit for the future."

Master Class

"The Retail Master Class is a great example. It’s a retail knowledge program run by AS Watson and open to people like me from The Perfume Shop. It has external specialists around retail but also internal subject matter experts. We had the first one in Turin, the second one in London and the third one in Amsterdam. So it was a really good opportunity to talk to other colleagues from different brands, and learn how to get more out of the day-to-day job by thinking about the future and the positive impact we can have."

Giant leaps

"This future thinking was where I found an opportunity to get involved with sustainability as it’s something I’m passionate about. In 2023 I was part of a team of 12 sustainability champions at The Perfume Shop and I continue to look at ways we can be more sustainable particularly when it comes to reducing our online carbon footprint. Reducing C02 emissions is something we can all have a direct impact on. My role is to help people understand that there are the big changes we can make as a business, but there are also the tiny little changes that everyone can make that will have a huge impact. And because we get to spend time in store and in our warehouses, we can understand what happens in those environment and work with the teams there to help make a difference."

One remarkable business

"The one thing I really love about working here is the opportunity to run with an idea. I’ve been in digital marketing for 15 years and seen so much change. I love the challenge that we face every day and the possibilities that comes with AI and machine learning. This is a business where you are encouraged to find opportunities and have the backing of great management to bring them to life!

But most importantly, I’m so passionate about making sure that everything we do is done with sustainability at its heart. The Perfume Shop is part of a global business and we have a shared responsibility to look after our world. There’s so much more that we can do. And I’m determined to do it!"
